Hum 110 Research Guide

Getting started with reference sources

Reference sources such as guides, companions, handbooks, dictionaries, and encyclopedias are often a good place to start your research. When selecting a topic, consult these sources for definitions and overviews.  These sources often include bibliographies that can lead you to other good sources, and they can give you ideas for narrowing or focusing your topic. Unless otherwise noted, books listed below are found in the Reference Room.
